PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED TO NEWS BREAK The Covid-19 pandemic has taken a serious toll on our economy. And for so many, it has also taken away the jobs that they’ve relied on for more than twenty years. Many of these people were so secure in their positions that they never would have imagined seeking new employment — especially so late in their careers. But, the truth is, the world will never be the same. And unfortunately, the unimaginable has become imaginable. So, what do they do? They apply for one position after another to regrettably never get a word back. In some cases, they might receive a batched email, or an email stating that they were no longer being considered for that position and that someone else was a better match. No additional details are available, and the sender is unavailable for response. Hold tight to your confidence, because the reality is — it’s not always you, it could also be them. The job industry has changed so drastically in the past decade, and each year it shifts even further to the left. Hiring managers are less hands-on than they used to be, and automated filters are pulling the most qualified […]
READ THE FULL ARTICLE ON THE MUSE. To add or not to add your grade point average to your resume? It might not seem like an important question, but did you know that there are times including or not including your GPA could literally help land you the job or nudge you into the rejection pile? Adding your GPA to your resume when you don’t need to may detract from your actual qualifications. For example, if you went through a rough patch in college, your overall grade point average may have no bearing on the actual knowledge you’ve absorbed or your accomplishments outside of coursework or even in specific classes. On the other hand, not adding your GPA in certain situations could prevent someone from taking you seriously as a candidate when they otherwise would have. Maybe you have no professional experience in this field whatsoever, but you totally aced your classes in a related major, for instance. READ THE FULL ARTICLE ON THE MUSE.
As entrepreneurs, we’re already busy as it is. Our budgets are limited in most cases. And, most of us are borderline experiencing “burnout” from all of the hats we’re wearing at once. Suffice to say, our time is precious, and no one lives the badge, “time is money,” with more of an honor than an entrepreneur ready to expand their business. A solid team, focus, and an in-demand product and/or service is pretty much all that any business needs to experience some sort of growth. But, with growth comes demand, and with demand comes the need to bring a few extra hands on deck. Businesses that don’t will ultimately become overwhelmed and stand the chance of facing imminent failure. As we begin to build or expand our business, we need to consider our resources and evolve our internal business model. In order to create a successful hiring cycle, here are many elements that we need to take into account. Consider the following when looking at your existing model: How large are our budgets? How large is our current team? In which areas do they specialize? Who will be doing the hiring? Where will we be hiring? What type of talent […]
PUBLISHED ON MEDIUM Let’s face it, technology has rapidly changed the way we do business — and markets, themselves, are shifting in a major way. We’re seeing steady progression across an entire industry and are taking on higher-paying opportunities in sectors that we never thought we would be. Managers are entering into new markets, as the realm of technology continues to evolve before our very eyes. We demand innovation and watch it transform on a daily basis. Technologies broaden, but the markets haven’t been nearly as kind. Most agencies are understaffed and roles unfulfilled. We’re seeing those with no formal education compete against MIT graduates. More people are working remotely, and central offices are no longer commonplace. The workforce has become global, and we have begun to control our teams at a distance. We have more power than we ever did, and the possibilities are now endless. With more opportunities in our hands, all it takes is a little bit of ambition and a simple roadmap to get you where […]
